Wednesday 3-10-2021

My Overdrive app wasn't working, so we read the last chapter of Astrophysics for Young People instead of Sweep. It got a little off topic at the end, delving into social, ethical, and religious issues. It was good to discuss the things that we agree with (evolution) and the things we don't (that bacteria are equivalent to people in the grand scheme of the universe).

For math everyone did more Khan. Seth is inching to the end, getting those last few percents. Aaron made it to the beginning division equations (like 6/1 = ?) and blasted through a million units all at once. So he's done with his 55% goal already. Catherine has his a wall with long division, so we're slowing it down. Same with fractions. Even with me sitting next to her and talking through it, she still ends up crying every day. Multiple factors leading to this, but we'll slow down on math for now.

Seth is still working on his story, Aaron is working on his email to Elliot, and Catherine is working on writing in her journal.

Wednesday is book club day. I led the discussion with Seth's group, which included talking about things like labeling people (good thing or bad thing?), times of loneliness, and how the way we are treated affects how we treat others. Lots of good conversation. They each also had to analyze a quote from the book and tell what it had to do with Jude/the story.

Catherine's group finished Pippi. She was late because she didn't realize she needed to finish the book and was still working to get it done. She ended up liking it in the end, especially the chapter where Pippi goes to school.

They spent the rest of the afternoon playing outside in the sunshine. Seth had his Deacon activity that evening, so we all went along. They flew kites and played frisbee. The kids all played some game on the bleachers together.

Catherine also had an activity that night but was having a hard day and opted to skip it.
