We read a bit out of Marie Antoinette's diary. Aaron wants to know when she'll get beheaded.
For math, Seth did Fogstone Island. Aaron & Catherine & I played a multiplication game. We rolled two 12-sided dice, then used a 12x12 multiplication chart to try to get 5 in a row. It was good practice for them to learn how to use a multiplication chart and to understand that 3x5 is the same as 5x3.
We listened to Echo on the way to gymnastics. Still haven't figured out how the two stories are connected. At KYA this week they had a giant hamster wheel that even Elise could move across the gym. I watched all the kids do a series of monkey bars, which they couldn't all do earlier this year.
On the way home we started Esperanza Rising because Echo had be to returned. Guess we'll have to pick up the story again later... At lunch we finished the Extra History about the Great Northern War, then watched another Science of Stupid (new favorite show, apparently).
I'm in charge of book club this month. We're reading "A Long Walk to Water." We discussed tribal differences, whether they would have run into the bush like Salva, the morality of leaving a child behind to save your own life, the Lost Boys of Sudan, and their prediction for how the story will continue. Then I had them each try to carry a container of water on their heads and walk with it. None of them could handle the weight. It was a nice, concrete way to illustrate Nya's situation. After, Brie & Gabe stayed to chat for an hour or so.
Catherine has been working on memorizing some of her Halloween songs. I'm impressed with her ability to pick out the notes and rhythms with no help from me.
At dinner Jon was quizzing Aaron on exponents. Sometimes he got it, sometimes not.
