Started “Last of the Mohicans” (Great Illustrated Classic). Discussed why the author kept using words like savages, red men, etc. and why that’s not okay. I do try to substitute the correct tribe names for ‘red man’ or ‘savage’ when I read just so those phrases don’t become ingrained in their language.
For math Seth did Puzzledom logic games. Catherine & Aaron worked on a cupcake problem involving factors (2, 3, 4) and figuring out which cupcakes would have no decorations and which (if any) would have all the decorations. Catherine also added to her definitions and theorems.
We did AAS and worked on how to split words into syllables for spelling. She did a great job, especially with the longer sentences.
She’s working hard on her piano playing. Right now she’s working on Malaguena which has been a challenge for her. But she seems to like challenges and there were no tears this week! In related news, Seth has decided to quit piano lessons. He just isn’t progressing and doesn’t care. I need to help him find something else to replace it.
Everyone had a blast at KYA again. Elise and Aaron mastered the hanging rings and Seth finally made it up the warped wall. Aaron was working hard on jumping over all 6 foam sticks. Miss Paula commented on how far he’s come with his independence and willingness to try new things over the past couple of years. Listened to Amos Fortune while driving and discussed the dilemma he’s having about helping someone or buying land for his family.
At lunch we watched some Physics Girl and Extra History on Nzinga. That evening Seth played disc golf with the deacons while the kids played on the playground/swings with Jon.
