Everyone except Catherine picked new memorization pieces today. Seth did Moses 1:39, Aaron did some awful poem that he'll regret tomorrow, and Elise picked Ooey Gooey again.
We finished Little House in the Big Woods today. For a book where nothing really happens, the kids sure loved it. It was beautifully written! It was so absorbing that when I finished reading it felt like fall outside instead of spring!
For math Seth did Khan. He was frustrated because he took an entire unit test (like 30 questions) and ended up not making any gains. But it was good practice and he has lots of time. The end of Khan always seems the hardest. I played a division game with Aaron & Catherine just to make sure they were getting the concept of division. We used cubes and I made up a story about soldiers, zombies, villagers, and cake. Then Catherine gave me a division problem and we solved it using cubes together. Long division is just no fun for anyone!
Seth worked on another poem (a haiku this time), Catherine wrote her last thank you, and Aaron rewrote his email to Elliot after remembering that Elliot already had Mario Kart.
At lunch we watched Physics Girl on cavitation, a video on Europa, a video on Nat Turner that I should have probably vetted better, a Ted Ed on light, a video on the Trail of Tears, and History vs. Andrew Jackson (they watched too much while I put Elijah down for a nap). After the last video Seth commented that his opinion of Andrew Jackson had improved a bit now that he had some historical perspective.
Catherine & Seth both had book club today. Catherine actually did all the reading last night, which shocked me. They're reading Pippi Longstocking. I ran Seth's discussion this month, on Other Words for Home. They each had to pack a backpack of items they would bring if they had to leave for another country and not be able to return. We had good discussions on revolution and why older generations might see it as a bad thing. Then the kids all played outside in the sunshine again.
Seth had youth group tonight. They were watching Other Side of Heaven 2, and apparently got bored and left early. Catherine and I worked on the design for her new room (she's taking over Elijah's room when he turns 2).
