We took Monday off to celebrate the awesome snowstorm we finally got! Despite the cold and wind the kids all spent a lot of time outside.
Tuesday we got back on schedule. We read Ch. 34 out of SOTW (Simon Bolivar and freedom in South America). We discussed whether he was a good man or a bad man and whether he would have made a good king/president.
It was Seth day, so we did one of the CEMC Problems of the Week. This was one involved calculating the surface area of stacked cubes. Once he remembered how to calculate area instead of volume, he was good to go. Catherine and Aaron both did more Zoombinis. Wonder how much longer that's going to keep their attention...
They all had to choose their projects to present since we're two weeks out from our break. Seth is working on some specific Roblox code that is beyond my comprehension. Catherine decided she wants to learn about evergreen trees. Aaron is going to finish his story.
Seth is reading through the Magnus Chase series, as well as Encyclopedia Brown books and The Girl Who Drank the Moon for book club. Catherine is still reading the Book of Mormon as well as Sea of Monsters. And Aaron is still working on Mrs. Piggle Wiggle.
Seth had a hard day today. He really, really hates having to play the piano, even though it's only once a week for 10 minutes. But that was our compromise since he didn't want to take lessons anymore. I don't want him to completely abandon his playing since it's such an important skill. He also really struggled with his Spanish conjugations again. I told him it will be so much easier once they sink it, but some days just aren't good for that kind of encouragement. He also read History of Medicine Ch. 4 about surgery and Vesalius.
We did our poetry time, despite Seth's general rottenness. Later everyone except Seth spent some time painting the clay creatures they'd made last week. There was also much playing outside, as well as Mario Kart, Breath of the Wild, and Just Dance.
Catherine gave our FHE lesson on love in the home. Good practice in leading discussion! And Seth was much happier by the evening.
