Tuesday 1-19-2021

For morning reading we read Ch. 32 from SOTW about Lewis and Clarke. Catherine was amazed at Sacagawea for carrying her son on her back during all of this, especially the cold and starving times. They also thought the 5 person translation was pretty hilarious.

For math Seth did more Khan (up to 81% now). He was working on exponents yesterday. Catherine & Aaron both tried out Exploding Dots. Not sure how much stuck, but some did! It moved pretty quickly, though.

Seth showed me his persuasive piece for Catherine. We did some editing for clarity and style, then I helped him remember who his audience was and to try to appeal directly to her tastes. We shall see. Catherine added more to Instagram and Aaron typed two sentences for his story (so slowly).

Seth is almost finished with the Hunger Games series. Catherine is still working through Lightning Thief, and Aaron is reading Prisoner for Liberty and Mrs. Piggle Wiggle. His new goal is to read a chapter book, so we shall see.

Seth is doing really well with his Spanish. We shifted to doing a bit from his book every day (along with Duolingo) and the continuity and smaller chunks seem to make everything better.

We ended up on a last minute hike to Kilgore with the Knoxes. We listened to WOW in the World while we drove (about unconscious bias). Seth was trying to figure out his own unconscious biases. The hike was lovely, wet & cold. On the drive home we made plans for our themed dinners. The kids are really excited about Minecraft themed dinner and Harry Potter themed dinner. I also discussed the riots at the Capitol with Seth and the presidential inauguration.

For FHE we picked new goals and discussed how best to help each other.
