Wednesday 12-2-2020

This morning we read Christmas is For Giving from the Advent book, then read Ch. 26-27 from SOS about Thomas Aquinas and Gutenberg and printing presses. They were all amazed to learn that a book cost more than buying a car would today. And that Gutenberg had to come up with his own ink and paper to go along with the press.

Today was Catherine day. She whipped through a logic puzzle from Waterloo CEMC, then we did a bunch of Khan together. She's on double-digit multiplication now. She also baked peanut butter cookies entirely without help. I watched her multiply the rows and columns of cookies on her tray to figure out how many Kisses she would need.

Seth did some Puzzledom and 15 minutes of Khan, Aaron did Marble Math. I had to teach him about equivalent fractions for one level. It didn't really stick, but it might with time.

I read Fancy Nancy, The Grinch Who Stole Christmas, and a book about Anna Strong, a spy during the American Revolution. Catherine was amazed.

We also did poetry time and enjoyed Catherine's cookies together. My poem had some intentionally incorrect pronunciations and we talked about why an author might do that.

Watched a Mark Rober about a bowling ball that you could control by leaning, as well as some Extra History about the Articles of Confederation.

We each wrote a letter to someone we felt showed Christlike love. The kids chose Melissa, Bente & Sue Sullivan.
